Mary Hicks

Mary (Raspica) Hicks, 101, of Bellflower, died peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Progress West Hospital in O’Fallon, surrounded by family.

Mary was born on April 13, 1923, in Staunton, Ill. She was the daughter of John and Catherine Raspica. On June 3, 1946, she married John C. Hicks. She worked several jobs in St. Louis before she moved to Bellflower in 1955. Mary worked at Hicks Store in Bellflower for over 50 years. She always stated that she had a beautiful life.

She was involved in Mariners Club, T.I.E. Club, the Fireflies and involved in the Bellflower Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed square dancing and was part of the Squirkle 8’s. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Due to her loving family and caregivers, Mary was able to stay at her home.

Mary is survived by her children: Ted Hicks, Kay Ravenscraft, Joyce Hicks and Emily Powell; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” C. Hicks; her parents, John and Catherine Raspica; siblings, Steve, John and Emily; and three grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on June 13 at Schlanker Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

A funeral service will be held at noon on June 13 at Schlanker Funeral Home with the Reverend Rich Helton officiating. Burial will follow at the Bellflower Cemetery in Bellflower. Casketbearers include Andy Hicks, Kenny Ravenscraft, Ken Ravenscraft, John Perry, Carl Schreinerand Kent Gilbert.
