Aloysius Hugo Grotewiel, 87, of Big Spring, passed away September 12, 2024, in Hermann. Al was born October 25, 1936, to the late Hugo J. and Johanna A. Grotewiel. He married Janet Rosalee Huenefeld on May 29, 1957. They were married 67 years.
Al enjoyed working outdoors on the farm and worked for 34 years at the Missouri Department of Transportation. After retiring from MoDOT, he worked 20 years driving a truck for Rhineland MFA.
Al was a member of First Baptist Church of Hermann and most recently attended Gasconade Baptist Church. He enjoyed singing in the choir every chance he got.
Al was a dedicated blood donor until his health prevented him from giving. He saved hundreds of lives with his generosity.
Al enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially if card playing was involved. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lovenia Wilding.
He is survived by his wife Janet "Rosie" of Hermann, son Michael Grotewiel of Osage Beach; two daughters, Mary Grotewiel of Columbia; and Rebecca Grotewiel and fiancé Terry Liverar of Arnold; one grandson, Dylan; two granddaughters, Laura and Katie; nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 18, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home in Hermann with a funeral service following at 11 a.m.
Memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
