The Montgomery City Public Library’s Community Room turned into craft heaven on Aug. 31.
For three hours, many people from the Montgomery County community got a chance to grab some free craft items from buttons to ribbons at the First Annual Montgomery City Public Library Craft Swap.
The event began at 10 a.m. with only patrons with a VIP pass getting access to the craft items. A VIP pass was earned to patrons who donated the items ahead of time. Items were donated between Aug. 26 and Aug. 28.
There was a long line of people waiting to get in the building minutes before the craft swap began at 10 a.m. At 11 a.m., the craft swap was open to the public. All patrons were provided one bag to fill with craft items. After the event was over at about 1 p.m., there were plenty of remaining items and they will be either used at the library or donated.
The craft swap included items such as craft kits, birthday and Christmas cards, ties, stickers, paint, yarn, needles, jewelry making supplies, children’s craft kits and supplies, drawing pens and pencils and floral and wreath supplies. The event was created for community members to get to know fellow crafters and learn new crafting ideas.
Luanne Andrews, who was the coordinator of the event, said MCPL Director Gaylee Harris came up with the idea of having a craft swap at the library.
“Gaylee wanted to do one,” she said. “She and I got it together and we found one that somebody set up previously and we kind of borrowed some ideas that we liked instead of reinventing the wheel.”
