Rebecca Schulze crowned MCHS homecoming queen

Another Montgomery County senior walked out of Jim Blacklock Field as the school’s homecoming queen on Oct. 4.

This time, it was Rebecca Schulze.

The football cheerleader was crowned homecoming queen during halftime of MCHS’ football game against Mark Twain. It is the fourth year in a row a MCHS senior was named homecoming queen.

“I haven’t finished my (senior) year, but it’s already one of my biggest highlights,” Schulze said. “This is amazing. It’s such an honor and a joy. Just being nominated was amazing. Winning was even better.”

Schulze received her crown and sash from Ellie Robinson, the 2023 homecoming queen who graduated in May and is now attending the University of Missouri-Columbia. Schulze said she dreamed of becoming homecoming queen since her freshman year.

“Having a crown means the world,” Schulze said. “I thank all of my fellow classmates so much for this because they did this, not me. They’re the ones who voted.”

Schulze was part of a homecoming court that included juniors Emily Clark and Dylan Topel, sophomore Addison Brower and freshman Kaylee Dillard, who is also a football cheerleader. Clark was the Wildcat candidate.

“They looked absolutely stunning tonight,” said Schulze, who was escorted by senior football player Jordan Hicks.

The senior was pretty busy when halftime began. First, she and her cheermates did a routine. Then, she had to rush to get dressed for the coronation.

“It was insane,” Schulze said. “I had to do it fast. A quick change.”

After the coronation, Schulze put back on her cheerleading uniform with her homecoming crown still on her head.

Schulze received a nice round of applause from her cheermates after she was crowned.

“I love my girls,” Schulze said. “They’re the world. I’m so honored that Gabby and I are the captains. They’re such an amazing group of girls. They work so, so hard in what they do.”

Schulze, who lives in Montgomery City, said she enjoyed all of the activities the school had during homecoming week. This year’s homecoming theme was “We’re All In This Together.”

“It’s so much fun during the week,” said Schulze, who plans to attend St. Charles Community College next year. “We have our dress-up days. We had homecoming practice (during the morning of Oct. 4). We had all of the fun stuff during the week and it’s so much fun to do it with my fellow classmates. It’s such an amazing tradition to do at the school.”
