It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jason Matthew Devlin, age 48, on Saturday, October 5 at University Hospital in Columbia. He was surrounded in love by countless family and friends.

Jason was born on July 7, 1976 in St. Charles. He spent his childhood growing up in New Florence and graduated from Montgomery County High School in 1994. Jason went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Hannibal-LaGrange College in 1998. He was a teacher and coach at Montgomery County Schools for five years. For the past 20 years, Jason worked as a carpenter and joined the Mid-American Carpenters Regional Council in 2012 and in 2014 he started a successful commercial construction business together in Columbia with his wife Shannon. They named their company “B-GAP” after the first initials of their four children. At work, Jason was known for his infectious laughter, warm heart and kindness. He dedicated his life to the service of others and his generosity knew no bounds. Jason had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued.

Outside of his professional life, Jason was enthusiastic about spending time with his family and friends. He married Shannon on May 30, 1999 and they went on to have four beautiful children. They lived a true fairytale life together. Jason was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, new grandfather, uncle and devoted friend. His smile, positive attitude and love of life drew everyone to his magnetic personality. Whether it be family vacations, holiday parties or simply gathering for Sunday dinner, Jason brought people together and created joyful memories that will last in our hearts forever.

Jason is survived by his loving wife of more than 25 years, Shannon Kathleen Luetjen Devlin and their four children, daughter Bailey Renee Devlin Widel (Aron) and Blackwater (Cooper County), sons Gabriel Elliot Devlin, Avery Jackson Devlin and Paxton Edward Devlin of Columbia and granddaughter Nora Jolene Widel of Blackwater along with his loving parents, Sidney Arthur Devlin and Brenda Kay Devlin of New Florence, siblings Jonathan Michael Devlin (Christina) of O’Fallon and Joshua Todd Devlin (Mercedes) of Wentzville. Jason’s surviving extended family includes his father and mother-in-law, James and Holly Luetjen; brothers-in-law, Justin Luetjen (Melissa) and Tyler Luetjen; sister-in-law, Amy Luetjen Nations (Steven); six nephews, Cameron, Joshua, Jordan, Tristan, Reynar and Heathcliff; and four nieces, Ashley, Morgan, Sidney and Stevie.
