Bethany Slovensky added three more all-state medals to her collection at the two-day Class 1 state track meet on May 17-18 in Jefferson City.

The Wellsville-Middletown senior finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles, giving her a total of 10 all-state medals for her outstanding four-year high school track career.

“I had a dream as a kid when I would come with my dad to the state track meet that I would make it to state,” Slovensky said. “I never imagined to be all-state once let alone 10 times.”

Now, Slovensky will look to carry her high school success to State Fair Community College, where she signed a letter of intent to compete in track for the 2024-25 season.

“I’m very excited because I feel like this opens up everything for next year at State Fair,” Slovensky said.

Slovensky earned all-state honors in three events for the second year in a row. She finished in 16.20 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 48.70 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles and jumped 16-3.75 in the long jump. She set season-best records in the 300-meter hurdles and long jump.

The W-M senior also competed in the triple jump, but didn’t place as she finished 11th with a 31-11.25.

“I did not jump my best,” Slovensky said. “It’s been a struggle throughout the years.”

Slovensky competed in the long jump and the preliminaries of both hurdle events on the first day of competition on May 17. She placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles to qualify for finals the next day.

Slovensky had to face tough competitors such as Ella Meyerkorth of Rock Port, Kelsey Crabtree of Pattonsburg and Elizabeth Schlueter of Tarkio in the hurdle events. Schlueter won the 100-meter hurdles and Meyerkorth came out on top in the 300-meter hurdles.

“The competition is always different,” Slovensky said. “You just have to be on your toes and try to outkick the one who is next to you. That’s all you can do.”

Slovensky earned all-state honors in the 100-meter hurdles for the fourth time. She placed second in her junior year, fifth in her sophomore year and third in her freshman year.

The senior also finished with her third all-state award in the 300-meter hurdles and second all-state award in her long jump. She had an eighth-place medal in the triple jump in her freshman year.

Slovensky said she was thrilled to compete at state all four years. In her first trip to state in her freshman year, she participated in four events.

“It’s been a great experience,” said Slovensky, who was also a three-time state qualifier in cross country. “My whole family gets to come. It’s really awesome.”

Slovensky finished with 23 first-place finishes this season, 15 of them were in the hurdle events.

“She’s pretty good,” W-M junior Cooper Henderson said. “She works hard and she puts in the work. That’s all you really can do.”
