Reagan earns fourth all-state medal in pole vault

El Reagan didn’t end her high school track career with another state championship.

Still, the Montgomery County senior was able to walk away from Jefferson City with another all-state medal.

Reagan finished in a tie for seventh with Herculaneum senior Eddyson Reeves in the pole vault in 10 feet at the Class 3 state meet in Jefferson City. She earned all-state honors in the pole vault all four years. She also placed eighth in her freshman year, first in her sophomore year and third in her junior year.

Reagan said even though she is disappointed that her high school track career came to an end, she is looking forward to competing at the college level. She will participate in track at William Woods University next year.

“I’m excited to move on to William Woods because I think I could really contribute there,” Reagan said. “Of course, I’ll miss coming here. I’ll miss my coaches and teammates. But I know there is a lot more to come.”

Reagan cleared the 10-foot mark on her third attempt. She was eliminated from state championship competition after missing all three attempts at the 10-6 mark, which she cleared four times this year, including a personal-best 10-9.5 in her first-place finish at the District 3 meet on May 4.

After Reagan was eliminated, she ran to the assistant coach Nathan Thurman and gave him a hug.

The senior injured her left ankle at the sectional meet at Paris on May 11 and it continued to bother her when she was competing at state on May 18.

“Since my ankle was hurting, it changed everything, so it’s been a learning process,” Reagan said.

Kamryn Florea of Lawson won the state title in 11-5. Alaina Loman of Palmyra, Abigail Spooler of Cape Girardeau Notre Dame, Makena Hall of Aurora, Addilyn Wooster of Holden and Abbie Lloyd of Dexter rounded out the top six.

“It’s a competition, but at the same time, we’re all just like a family,” Reagan said. “We’re cheering each other on and all of that stuff. Those girls are very deserving of the places they got today.”

Reagan finished with a career-high 10 victories in the pole vault this season. She qualified for state by placing third at the Paris sectional meet.
