Auchly elected Knights of Columbus state deputy

Knights of Columbus delegates from across Missouri elected Michael Auchly as state deputy, the organizations’ highest state-level position, at its annual convention held in Columbia on April 27-28. In his capacity as state deputy, Auchly will oversee 292 Knights of Columbus councils throughout the state which represent over 43,500 Knights and their families. The term of state deputy began on July 1 and will last until June 30.

Auchly said he is honored to be elected by his brother Knights to lead the Missouri jurisdiction. Michael is the first State Deputy to be elected from this area of the state and the first state officer from the Montgomery City council.

“I look forward to representing and leading the Missouri Knights of Columbus as we continue the works of the order honoring our faith and serving our communities,” Auchly said in a recent address of the Missouri Knights of Columbus.

Auchly joined the Knights of Columbus in 1988 at Montgomery City Council 2044 and has held several positions in his local council including Financial Secretary for 20 years and served as a Grand Knight. He is also a member of the Fourth Degree Bishop Leo J. Steck Assembly 572 and is a Past Faithful Navigator and a member of the Honor Guard.

Auchly started serving on the State Council level as a District Deputy in 2005, earning the coveted Star District Deputy Award. In 2008, he was asked to be the Columbian Squires Chairman for which he won the Supreme Council Award for Largest Percentage Increase in Membership with the Columbian Squires in 2010. In 2011, he was appointed to his first directorship as Youth Director where Missouri had several national winners in the Soccer Kick Competition, Free Throw Contest, Poster and Essay Contest. In 2013, three of the 10 international soccer champions were from Missouri. In 2013, as he was the council director, the State Archives and Museum were established. In 2014, he was appointed the respect life director for which he served two years placing eight ultrasound machines that are still in use today and raising $616,122.55 in contributions. He served as the Religious Information Bureau Director in 2016 and 2017 with a total number of $536,155.17 in contributions.
In 2018, Auchly was asked to serve as general program director for which he did so for two years until 2020 providing some of the best hospitality rooms for the Supreme Conventions. Then in 2020, he was appointed the Missouri State Membership Director for which he served two years starting two new Councils with 1,780 new members. He oversaw the turnaround with a positive growth in membership that had not been seen in a few years.

Auchly has most recently been serving as the Missouri State Council Secretary for the past two years after being first elected in 2022 and re-elected in 2023.

Auchly is a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Montgomery City. He is very active in his parish as he has previously served as Parish Council President and is currently serving as the Finance and Administration Commission Chairman and the Immaculate Conception Catholic School Recruitment Committee Chairman. He also is a member of the Saint Mary’s Cemetery Association and is a member of the Knights of Columbus Development Center Board of Visitors at Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis.

Auchly received his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1992 at Central Methodist College and worked for over 25 years in the manufacturing industry in purchasing and sales forecasting. Michael is very active in his community having served as a past president of Kiwanis, volunteer fireman, first responder, middle school football coach, Town Santa Claus and a member of the World Famous Montgomery Town Band. Auchly has owned Bundy’s Burgers and Ice Cream in Montgomery City since 2019.

Auchly grew up in Montgomery County on a Century Farm, where he currently resides, being the fifth generation of his family to live there and operate the farm of which he has now retired. When not working in the restaurant he enjoys spending his free time visiting with friends, attending social functions and performing in several local community bands.
