Doris Ash

Doris Ann Ash, 95, of Montgomery City, passed away Monday, April 22, 2024 at the St. Andrew’s Care Center in New Florence.

Doris was born on August 16, 1928, the oldest of 10 children of Edgar A. and Anna (Erdel) Conklin. Doris graduated from Mexico High School before going to Kansas City for secretarial school. Doris then went to Ozark Bible College in Joplin, where she met Hugh Raymond Ash, who she married on November 18, 1951.

Doris was involved in many aspects of church work with Hugh. She also cooked at High Hill Christian Assembly Camp for a number of summers. Doris was also heavily involved in Boy Scouts both in Missouri and Texas and was a member of the district counsel. She was awarded the Silver Fawn, the highest scouting award given to women at that time.

Doris was a member of the Middletown Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Ash of Montgomery City and Mary Lou (Jeff) Stapleton of Warrenton; two sons, David Ash of Tucson, Ariz., and John Ash of Eolia (Pike County); son-in-law, Timothy Boden of Starkville, Miss.; siblings Albert Conklin, Lonabe Brisbin, Maryanna Mackey, Frances (Charles) Thomas, all of Mexico; Martha Plumlee of Temple, Texas; Karen (Sterling) Holbrook of Farber (Audrain County), Bill (Janice) Conklin of Theodosia (Ozark County); grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hugh; daughter, Nancy Boden; and brothers Jack Conklin and Donald Conklin.

A visitation was held on April 26 at Schlanker Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on April 27 at the Middletown Christian Church. Jeff Stapleton officiated the services. Interment followed at Prices Branch Cemetery.
