Three runners finish in top 25 at Columbia meet

For the first time, the Montgomery County cross country teams ran in the Gans Creek Classic Meet in Columbia on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Lady Wildcat Lyric Ford and Wildcats Dawson McCown and Connor Galarza had excellent performances, while the Lady Wildcats and Wildcats teams had their best overall performances of the 2019 season.

The schools competing in this meet were divided into 3 divisions, based on the school’s preference, school size, or competitiveness.  The Montgomery County teams competed in the White Division. 

In the girls meet, the Lady Wildcats finished in 11th place out of the 19 schools that competed as a team (5 runners needed to do this). The Lady Wildcats finished with 253 points (based on the best 5 individual finishes for each team), while Steelville won the White Division Girls’ Meet with 149 points. As a point of reference, the 19th place team had 405 points.  

In the boys meet, the Wildcats finished in 14th place out of the 26 schools that competed as a team. The Wildcats finished with 368 points, while Bowling Green won the White Division Boys’ Meet with 146 points. As a point of reference, the 26th place team had 600 points.

Both teams will compete in the North Callaway Invitational Meet this Saturday, Oct. 5. 


Girls results

Freshman Lyric Ford had an excellent performance, as she finished in 5th place out of 153 runners. Her time for the race was 20:35.50.  Kiersten Potter, from Lamar, won the race with a time of 19:31.8. Lyric won an award as the top 25 runners in each division were given an award.

In addition to Lyric, 5 more Lady Wildcats competed in this meet. Destiny Shaw had the next best performance, as she finished in 62nd place, with a time of 24:30.0.  She was followed by Sara Scheid (64th, 24:41.8), Carie Schroer (68th, 24:47.4), Ann Schroer (132nd, 29.52.4) and Josi Holtzclaw (136th, 30:38.8).  


Boys results

Dawson McCown and Connor Galarza also had excellent performances and earned awards, as they both finished in top 25 runners out of 216 runners. Dawson had the best performance for the Wildcats, as he finished in 12th place with a time of 17:51. Connor wasn’t that far behind, as he finished in 14th place with a time of 18:11.2.

Malik Stewart, from Maplewood-Richmond Heights (St. Louis area), won the race with a time of 16:27.6.

Isaac Hartman, Logan Camp, Mikah Schneider, Zachary Schierhoff and Tyler Finke also ran for the Wildcats in this meet. Isaac finished in 89th place with a time of 20:21.6. He was followed by Logan (144th, 21:45.8), Mikah (172nd, 22:50.6) Zachary (195th, 25:12.8) and Tyler (207th, 26:45.9).
