Lorene Ray

Lorene Marie Graue Ray passed away peacefully on Sept. 6, 2019, at the age of 97.

Born in Mineola, Mo., on May 20, 1922, Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Franklin Ray III in 2007, her brother Paulie, her parents, Anna Matilda Heldt Graue and Clarence Dietrich Henry Graue and her sister Jewel Graue Ernst, all of Missouri.

She is survived by a sister, Mildred Graue Brown of Columbia, Mo., her daughters Pat Ray (Jerry Woltz) of New Bloomfield, Pa., Ellen Ray Rae (Brian Rae) of Alexandria, Va., and long-time friend Christine Vick (Radford Koerner) of Alexandria, Va., five grandchildren, Tracy Young of Miami Florida, Nathan Young (Charlotte), R. Colin Deaso (Dawn), Rose Hardee (Brian), and Rachael Deaso-Taylor (Mike Taylor) as well as 10 great grandchildren.

Lorene was a faithful volunteer of the Mount Vernon Hospital Auxiliary for over three decades. Affectionally known as “Bemi” to her grandchildren, Lorene was an accomplished cook, a collector of antiques and a student of Colonial Virginia history.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 118 N. Washington St, Alexandria, Va., at a later date.
